The Broadland Model Railway Club (BMRC) has a long history of over 40 years. It was first formed in 1982 at Royal Air Force Coltishall as the RAF Coltishall MRC. When the former Battle of Britain station was listed for closure by the end of 2006 it was decided to rename the Club as the Broadland MRC. This was done at a meeting held in December 2004 in anticipation of the inevitable shut-down. The membership of the renamed Club then moved on 1st January 2006 to a location near to the village of Ashmanhaugh. This included some ex-members of Coltishall and some new members from the local surrounding area.
Although the facilities were good the premises were quite small and there were restrictive conditions. This prompted another move during March 2011, this time to the village of Panxworth. These premises were only very slightly larger but allowed the then Club layout to stay up permanently. Although this attracted new members there was unfortunately a limit placed on the numbers the Club was allowed to accommodate. Therefore at an EGM held in December 2012 it was decided to move to much larger and better equipped premises. These are located in the village of Catfield; about midway between Barton and Hickling broads just off the A149. At the inaugural meeting in its new premises it was decided to form the BMRC into a Company Limited by Guarantee and this was accomplished on 31st January 2013.
The Club is now in a situation where we can and are very pleased to welcome new members. For details about joining the BMRC please contact the Club Secretary .
